Do you know how to tell if your tummy is healthy?
Sure you might feel fine and generally your tummy seems to be working alright but the delicate balance of gut flora is very vulnerable to the modern way of living.
How can you tell whether your health is already starting to suffer from a lack of healthy microbes in your digestive system? The following symptoms are all signs that you do not have enough beneficial microbes in your gut:
- Constipation or diarrhoea
- Gas and bloating
- Sleep problems
- Sugar / refined foods cravings
Physical things that adversely affect our tummies include:
Sugar, refined grains, processed foods, antibiotics (prescription and those from the meat we eat), chlorine and fluorine in drinking water, antibacterial soaps, long-term medication, air pollution, agricultural chemicals.
Our emotional balance also affects the gut flora.
When we have too much of any of these factors the number of beneficial bacteria and yeasts in our digestive system is reduced. This has two major effects on our bodies: firstly harmful microbes can flourish and secondly we don’t get the essential help of the beneficial microbes that are there to assist with our digestion. In the long term this can lead to a form of malnutrition and many other health issues, including digestive problems.
Fortunately there is plenty we can do to reverse the situation – it is never too late to make a difference! We can change what we eat to be as organic and whole grain as possible, reduce the amount of sugars in our diet, filter our water, use organic products on ourselves and around our homes, learn how to relax more and add some healthy probiotics to our diets.
There is no one easy answer to rebalancing our tummies however experimenting with little changes should quickly show a positive result. If not, be sure to get some good professional advice as we all deserve to be 100% healthy.
