Why do we need probiotics?

Probiotics are live bacteria that are good for your health, especially your digestive system. We usually think of bacteria as something that causes diseases. But your body is full of bacteria, both good and bad. Probiotics are often called “good or friendly” bacteria because they help keep our gut healthy by keeping the bad bacteria under control. Without these friendly bacteria our gut can become over populated with nasty unfriendly bacteria sometimes causing serious illness.

How do probiotics work?

It’s only been since about the mid-1990s that people have wanted to know more about probiotics and their health benefits. And although researchers are still trying to understand this complex science of how exactly bacteria work in the gut, many doctors, dieticians and nutritionists recommend taking them to help with digestive problems and for their general health benefits.

Its now known that when the balance of good bacteria in your gut is damaged due to factors like:
antibiotics, poor diet, stress, alcohol, hormonal fluctuations and surgery, taking probiotics can help restore them. Simply by adding a good quality multi-strained probiotic to your diet can help control and lower the amount of “bad” bacteria in your gut that can cause imbalances and other problems.

For example, some researchers say probiotics have helped with:
irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), Infectious diarrhea (caused by viruses, bacteria, or parasites) and antibiotic-related diarrhea. There is also some research to show they ease the symptoms of non-stomach-related problems, skin conditions like eczema, urinary and vaginal health, preventing allergies and colds and oral health, and the list goes on.

Why choose Bio-Live?

Bio-Live is a living liquid food supplement containing 13 different strains of friendly bacteria which are known to support and protect the gut. When bacteria are consumed in a liquid they get delivered straight to the lower intestine. Unlike freeze dried capsules Bio-Live is already at the right PH level enabling the bacteria to survive the acid environment of the stomach insuring that most of these friendly microbes get into the lower intestine alive and ready to work.

What strains of bacteria are contained in Bio-Live?

Bio-Live made with 13 strains of carefully selected probiotic bacteria:
Lactobacillus acidophilus,

Why is Bio-Live fermented with juices, herbs and minerals?

In the same way that cabbage through lactose fermentation becomes a more nutritious food when it is turned into sauerkraut. The microbes in Bio-Live also ferment the juices, herbs and minerals pre-digesting the ingredients into bioavailable compounds that are easily absorbed into the body. Bio-Live is not just a powerful living fermented liquid with bio live cultures, it is also a rich source of pre-digested micro-nutrients, vitamins, antioxidants and minerals.

What is the difference between Bio-Live Dark and Gold?

Bio-Live Dark is gluten free and made with black strap molasses which is packed with sugars and mineral, this gives the product a dark colour and a strong taste. Bio-Live Gold is made with malt extract, mainly sugars, giving this product a Gold colour and lighter flavour. All the other ingredients are exactly the same. The sugars contained in the molasses and malt are food for the microbes and are used up in the fermentation process.

Are there any health claims for Bio-Live?

Current legislations means that probiotic supplements are categorised as a food so no specific health claims can be made for Bio-Live. However many people including dieticians, nutritionists, doctors and scientists believe that taking supplements which contain live viable bacteria commonly known as probiotics can maintain balance in the gut and help with many health issues. The Internet is a good source to learn more about current research and other peoples experiences and of course you can try for yourself.

Do probiotics work for everyone?

The bacteria balance in the gut is complex and not all of the causes of imbalance are fully understood. Taking probiotics can be highly effective, especially if people are also managing their diet and lifestyle to avoid their main triggers. A good quality probiotic can give positive benefit to the vast majority but sadly do not work for everyone. It may take a few weeks for you to start to feel the benefits but it is important that anyone taking Bio-Live for the first time uses it for three months to give it the best opportunity to work.

Does Bio-Live have any down sides?

Occasionally customers have reported a loosening of stools or some gas and discomfort during the first few days of taking Bio-Live. This is quite normal as it means the bacteria are busy working to balance your digestive system. If the discomfort persists and becomes too uncomfortable reduce the dosage or discontinue use.

Can I give Bio-Live to my children?

We provide GOOforYOU (250ml and 500ml) our first living fermented liquid for children. With a few less ingredients and add sugar to make for a better taste, it is perfectly safe for your children and will help maintain a healthy immune system.

What else can I do to improve the success of taking Bio-Live?

With a bit of time and dedication put towards improving your gut health you will feel great and see results in all aspects of your health.

If you have not done so already its very worthwhile improving your diet by removing gluten, refined sugars, seed oils and trans fats etc. Replace inflammatory foods with healing foods, like fermented vegetables (i.e sauerkraut, kimchi). Eat lots of leafy greens and add PRE-BIOTICS to your diet. Treat any intestinal pathogens (such as parasites) that may be present. Take steps to manage stress, maybe try yoga or meditation.

What is the recommended dose? Is more better?

For best results we recommend that adults take 1-3 desert spoons (15-30ml) and children two years and older take 1-3 teaspoons (5-15ml) daily, preferably 10 minutes before breakfast. For a more intensive issue you can safely increase the dose but at first this may cause stomach upset or detoxification symptoms. The general rule is a little each day over a period of at least 3 months, this will achieve the best results. Because we all have a unique ratio of microbes in our digestive tract, consumers should find out what quantity and method works best for their own system. Bio-Live comes in 500ml bottles which usually equate to 1 month’s supply. If you find the taste too strong Bio-Live can be mixed with juice or water.

When is the best time to take Bio-Live?

We recommend taking Bio-Live on an empty stomach, in the morning and before breakfast. This gives the microbes the best chance of surviving the stomach acid. Bio-Live is concentrated and strong so even though some microbes die, the majority survive and get where they need to go.

Is daily consumption necessary?

Yes, it has been shown that taking a regular daily dose of liquid probiotic over time will produce the best results.

How long do I need to take Bio-Live?

Although many consumers will notice results in the first month it does take at least three months to rebalance and stabilise a healthy system. After three months it is recommended that we establish a maintenance dose of probiotics to keep our gut in top condition.

Can I take Bio-Live during and following antibiotic treatment?

Yes, it is very helpful to take probiotics during and after any antibiotic treatment to help restore and maintain a healthy balance in the gut. Whilst antibiotics usually help to get on top of illness, they can also destroy the ‘beneficial’ bacteria in the gut as they are not discriminating. However it is recommended that you take Bio-Live at a different time to your antibiotics if possible – remember that ideally you should take Bio-Live 10 minutes before eating or drinking to allow it to pass through the stomach to get to where it needs to.
